Fan Wu, AMFT (#156889)

Relational, Bilingual, Psychotherapist

Life can feel overwhelming at times. When stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, or relationship struggles accumulate, it’s easy to feel depleted or disconnected from yourself and others. I offer a steady, compassionate space where you can gain clarity and reconnect with what brings meaning, balance, and relief.

I work with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds, supporting concerns such as relationship distress, trauma, life transitions, parenting challenges, and intercultural or interracial dynamics. My work is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method, and is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for each client’s lived experience.

My approach is collaborative and integrative, drawing from humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and somatic-based therapies. I also incorporate art and play therapy, narrative work, and evidence-based practices from CBT, DBT, and ACT to tailor treatment to each client’s goals and needs.

I am an internationally acclaimed author and a co-host of a grant-winning mental health podcast. With over 15 years of experience across technology, creative, and nonprofit sectors, I bring warmth, depth, and real-world perspective to my clinical work. Beyond the therapy room, I am committed to mental wellness advocacy, supporting awareness and healing within underserved communities. I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin, and offer services in person and via telehealth.

Couples Therapy & Intimate Relationships

Relationships bring joy, but they also bring challenges. Cultural, racial, or family differences often make misunderstandings feel larger than they are. You may notice the same arguments coming up again and again, or feel distance growing despite your desire for connection.I take a collaborative, integrative approach.

Trained in The Process Model and informed by Attachment-Based Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method, I use a variety of approaches to tailor therapy to your unique needs. In our work together, we may focus on:

  • Noticing and shifting patterns that keep you stuck in conflict
  • Strengthening emotional connection and felt safety
  • Learning practical ways to communicate and repair after disagreements
  • Rebuilding trust, intimacy, and mutual respect
  • Navigating intercultural and interracial differences with curiosity and care
  • Thoughtfully exploring separation when staying together no longer feels healthy

Whether you’re hoping to reconnect, repair, or understand your next steps, I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where everyone in the relationship can feel heard. We work toward clarity and decisions that feel right for you.

Individual Therapy

Life can feel heavy at times. Stress piles up, and big changes may leave you feeling unsteady. Past experiences or losses often linger, shaping the way you move through your days. In therapy, we take the time to slow down and notice what’s going on.

Together, we explore ways to heal, grow, and build a life that feels more true to who you are. Some of the work I support individuals with:

  • Stress, anxiety, and life transitions — helping you manage overwhelming moments, regain a sense of balance, and discover what feels meaningful and important to you.
  • Relationships, Loneliness & Disconnection — Supporting the development of emotional clarity, healthy boundaries, and authentic connection
  • Trauma — understanding how past experiences and family history shape your present, and creating space for healing
  • Loss and grief — Offering a safe place to voice what feels too heavy or painful and honor your losses, while guiding you to gradually find your footing again after major changes
  • Identity and belonging — supporting BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, immigrant, and intercultural individuals in exploring identity and self-understanding, and cultivating strength.

Parenting Support

Parenting can be deeply rewarding but it can also feel overwhelming. Cultural expectations, generational differences, and your own upbringing can make even everyday challenges feel complicated. You may find yourself questioning your choices, feeling drained, or unsure how to respond in difficult moments.I’m a parent raising two teens, and I understand firsthand the joys and challenges of guiding children through different stages of life.

I work with parents to navigate these challenges with clarity and compassion. Together, we explore what’s happening in your family and develop strategies to strengthen your connection with your children, whether they are little ones, teens, or adults. Some areas we may focus on include:

  • Understanding your child’s emotional needs and developmental stage
  • Managing stress, overwhelm, and parenting burnout
  • Navigating cultural, intergenerational, or value-based differences
  • Improving communication and reducing power struggles
  • Setting boundaries with warmth and consistency
  • Reflecting on how your own upbringing influences your parenting today
